In today’s life, sculpture art are developed with the famous cartoon images every cities, effectively attracting customers and become impressive parts of urban life. We often see FRP sculpture in cities everywhere, but what are the raw materials for producing FRP sculpture? Below we will introduce the production materials for you.
Synthetic resin is one of the main raw materials of FRP sculpture, also known as base material and matrix, which plays the role of binder, working with the reinforcing material fiberglass to synthesize the whole. FRP sculptures and components mostly use unsaturated polyester resin , which are used for curing reaction in the process.
For polyester resin, the curing agent and promoter agent are usually added to promote and control the curing reaction of FRP sculptures, so that the resin solidifies under heating or room temperature conditions.
For the epoxy resin, it is the extremely strong bonding force for curing reaction without by-products, low sculpture shrinkage rate with high mechanical strength and other advantages, for producing ideal FRP sculptures. Epoxy resin is also used with curing agent. Epoxy resin diluent is divided into active and inactive two kinds.
Phenolic resin generally needs to be formed at high temperature and high pressure for making high quality FRP sculpture, so this resin is usually used for construction FRP sculpture. Although its cost is relatively low, its application and dosage are much lower than that of unsaturated polyester resin.
Fiberglass is the reinforced material for raw materials, which is the incredible fine glass wires pulled by the molten glass liquid at a very fast speed. There are many forms of fiberglass applications, and diverse varieties of FRP sculpture. Commonly used fiberglass sculptures materials contain glass fiber yarn, untwisted coarse gauze, non-woven cloth, twisted yarn weaving and glass fiber felt, of which fiberglass are the most used.
